Kiyoko Tano Trainer
Kiyoko has 24 years experience of snowboarding.
Based predominantly in the Sapporo International Ski Area each season. In the past, she has also spent time in Whistler, Canada — the largest ski resort in North America — on a working holiday visa.
Upon her introduction to the sport, Kiyoko immediately found CrossFit exciting, not only because she could see her body shape changing before her eyes, but also due to the drastic improvements in her stamina and strength within just a few months.
Since starting CrossFit in May 2017, much about Kiyoko’s life has changed, including the decision to leave the company that she had worked for for many years.
Having moved on from her old company, Kiyoko embarked on a trip to experience training in the US — the birthplace of CrossFit — between April and May of 2018. She had to work out hard every day at six boxes (CrossFit gyms) in Hawaii and three boxes in New York, making her stronger, both mentally and physically.
Upon her return to Japan, Kiyoko participated in Tokyo’s Spartan race, an obstacle race for the very best in the world, winning a gold medal in her Female age-group "Sprint" event — a race comprised of 7km (4.6miles) distance + 20 obstacles.
After this result, Kiyoko was selected for the Asia Pacific Championship in Malaysia — a tournament which saw the top competitors of each country gathered on one stage — in December of 2018. After a hard fought battle, Kiyoko placed 6th in her APAC Female age-group "Beast" event, which covered 21km with 35 Obstacles.
Kiyoko now mainly coaches at Niseko CrossFit in Kutchan — a Japanese town renowned for its international appeal — making use of her experience and track-record overseas.
